Bhopal
Shopping
Bhopal's two main shopping areas are the New Market area,
and the Chowk, in Old Bhopal. The New Market area is open from Tuesday-Sunday.
Though similar items can be found in both markets, prices are much
more reasonable in the Chowk, and the intricate streets and alleys
are good to wander around. This place is open from Monday-Saturday.
Here, one can find elegant gold and silver jewellery beautifully
woven saris, hand embroidered pieces of skirts, exquisitely fashioned
beadwork, embroidered and sequined velvet fashioned purses and cushions
at reasonable prices.
The New Market area has some bigger stores, including Mrignayani
for handicrafts, men’s calico shirts and trendy ethnic Salwar
Kamises.
The MP State Emporium on Hamidia Road is the place to buy batiks,
dokra metalwork, khadi clothes, bedspreads and silk saris, although
the fixed prices are not cheap.
Tourists can also check out the street stalls on the Overbridge
Road for bargains.
