How to reach Panna


From Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, Panna is about 500 Kms by Rail route (upto Satna) around 400 Kms by Road and around 40 Kms by Air route. Taxies are available all time from Khajuraho to Panna.

Air : The nearest Airport is Khajuraho, the world famous heritage. Khajuraho (57 km) is directly connected to the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi.

Rail : The nearest Railway station is Satna (90 km), which is directly connected, to Bhopal, Jabalpur & Delhi.

Road : From Khajuraho airport, it is only 45 Kms drive for Panna. From Satna railway station, there is about 70 Kms drive for Panna. The park is also well connected with the other parts of the region by a good network of roads.

Destinations Near from Panna
Khajuraho is situated at a distance of around 57km from the Panna National Park. The place is a world heritage site famous for the exquisite sculptures adorning the temples there. The erotic images on the walls of the temples are well known and attract tourists from all over the world. Major attractions are the Kandariya Mahadev Temple, Lakshman Temple, Devi Jagdamba Temple, temple of Vishwanath and Nandi, Chaunsath Yogini Temple, Parsvanatha Temple, Shanti Nath Temple, Ghantai Temple, and temples of Brahma and Hanuman.

Majhgaon, at a distance of around 55km, has the country’s only working diamond mine.

Accommodation
There are various jungle resorts near the park. Accommodation can be made available in the Park Inspection Huts at Madala & Hinouta (two suits each) on first-come-first-serve basis and on the condition of availability. Guides are available at both the entry points. Tree houses and tourist lodges are also available in the vicinity of the Panna Wildlife Sanctuary to accommodate the visitors. The accommodation facilities can be sought in the following hotels:

  1. Ken River Lodge ( 2 km far from the park )
  2. Giles Tree House

Nearest Destinations from Panna
You can go to the neighboring state of Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh has numerous places of attraction. Visit Agra and Varanasi the two most exciting destinations in Uttar Pradesh. The Temple City of Khajuraho is at a distance of 57 km from the park. One can also head towards the Bandhavgarh Wildlife Sanctuary and the city of Panchmarhi.

Climate
The climate of this region is tropical. Summers are too hot and very uncomfortable and at times the mercury touches around 40 degree centigrade. Winters are cold and comfortable and the temperature generally remains under 25 degree centigrade. Monsoon touches this region in July and continues till mid-September. The Reserve is open for the visitors for eight months in a year, from November to June.
