Gwalior
Eating Out
With a couple of exceptions, all the best places
to eat in Gwalior are in the mid- and top-of-the range hotels, where
the main dishes come in the range anywhere between Rs.30 and Rs.
100. More basic and much cheaper dal, subzi and roti are doled out
on stainless-steel plates at the row of dhabas outside the railway
station. Various juice bars are dotted around the station and Jayaji
Chowk, over in the west end of town, which serve glasses of refreshing,
freshly squeezed fruit juice.
However, given below are some more famous eating joints of Gwalior:
- Indian Coffee House
The Indian CoffeeHouse below the Hotel India is a good cheap place,
with masala dosas and other vegetarian snacks. The usual attentive
waiters in fan-shaped headgear staff it.
- Kwality Restaurant
This is an air-con haven not far from the southern fort gate on
MLB Rd. The food is fresh, the service is good and prices are
reasonable. It is one of the best restaurants in town, specially
known for its chicken makhani and malai kofta.
- Dawat Restaurant
This restaurant, nearby on the same main road, is classier than
Kwality with slightly higher prices to match.
- Volga Restaurant
This restaurant is at the Hotel Surya. Here, very good Indian
food is served.
- Usha Kiran Palace
The Usha Kiran Palace restaurant is the place to eat out in style.
The Mughlai food is excellent and they occassionally have a buffet
as well as a la carte.
- Banjara
Located in the old High Court Lane. A good range mainly of Indian
dishes as well as imaginative daily specials and south Indian
breakfasts are served.
- MPSTDC Tansen
Located on the 6A Gandhi Road, here the biryanis are particularly
good. Even western breakfasts and the standard Indian and Chinese
menu's are served.
- Landmark
This place emphasizes on Mughlai specialties; the main attraction
however, is the live classical music held here every evening.
