Agartala
Agartala is the capital of Indian state Tripura. It is situated
on the banks of Haroa river. It is located at about 1680 km from
Calcutta and 599 km from Guwahati. Rich in flora and fauna,the legendary
state of Tripura is a fascinating world in itself. Agartala gained
prominence when Maharaja Krishna
Manikya shifted his capital here in the 19th century.
The best time to visit Agartala is between October and April. The
town is known for its cultural and historical worth that is visible
when one sees the bright bamboo and cloth umbrellas over ponds.
Such parasols are part of the tribal customs of grandsons commemorating
the deaths of their grandfathers on their anniversaries.
Excursion
Around Agartala are places famous for rock cuts and carvings like
Debtamura situated at 75km away from Agartala and Unakoti located
at about 178 km from Agartala and Pilak about 100 km from Agartala.
Ujjayanta Palace
Its main monument of interest is the gleaming white Ujjayanta Palace,completed
in 1901. It was built in the Indo-Saracenic style in 1901 by Maharaja
Radhakishore Manikya. It is a two-storeyed mansion,with 28 hectares
of parkland,and now houses the office of the State Legislative Assembly.
In its grounds one of the many temples located within its grounds
is the Jaganath temple which is an orange tower rising from an octagonal
plinth, is open to the public. Other temples of interest include
Umamaheswar temple directly opposite Jaganath across the Palace
gardens,and the Buddhist Venuban Vihar 1km north on Airport Road.
The rather unusual Gedu Mian Mosque near the Motor Stand is encrusted
with a mosaic of crockery pieces.
Kunjaban Palace
Kunjaban Palace, Pushpavant Palace Another major atraction for the
tourists is Kunjaban Palace that was built in 1917 by Maharaja Birendra
Kishore Manikya. Originally called Pushbanta Palace,it is located
about 1km away from the Ujjayanta Palace. The Palace is now the
official residence of the Governor of Tripura. The southern part
of the Palace called Rabindra Kanan is open to the public.
Neermahal
Neermahal is situated at about 55km away from Agartala. It was built
in the year 1930 by the late Maharaja Birbikram Kishore Manikya
Bahadur. It is located amidst the lake named Rudrasagar. It is the
only lake palace in Eastern India and has been built in a mixture
of Hindu and Mughal styles.
Mata Tripureshwari Temple
Mata Tripureshwari Temple,an important pilgrimage center is situated
at a distance of 58 km from Agaratala. It houses the statue of Goddess
Kali. The Chaturdas Devta Bari Temple,located at 14 km from Agartala
is famous for the tribal festival of Karachi held in the month of
July annually. Maa Bhubaneshwari Temple is located at right banks
of the Gomti River by Maharaja Govinda Manikya that was built in
the 17th century. Other important temples of Agartala are Lakshmi
Narayan temple,Jagannath temple,Uma Maheshwari temple,and Durga
temple. The Buddha Vihar houses the Burmese statues of Lord Buddha
and is situated on Airport Road in the North of the city.
Jampui Hills
Jampui Hills are located at a distance of about 200 km from Agartala
and is famous as the land of the permanent spring. It is at a range
of about 300 ft above sea level. The place is known for its natural
splendor and serene atmosphere. Located at 55 km south of the city
is the city of lakes,Udaipur,which is known for its Mahadev temple
and Tripura Sundari temple. The Sepajhila wildlife sanctuary and
Krishna wildlife sanctuary are nearby Agartala.

airlines flights with Calcutta,Guwahati,Delhi.
By Rail : The two nearest railway
stations are Kumarghat (160 kms) and Dharama Nagar (200 kms).
By Road : Silchar- 288 kms,Guwahati-
599 kms,Shillong- 499 kms,Dharmanagar- 200 kms.
