Bicholim

The Bicholim province is north of the Mandovi river while the main town is 37 kms. from Panaji. There are many Hindu Temples around this town.Bicholim is the centre of Mining industry, housing Goa's famous large sites of manganese and iron-ore mines and palletisation plants. Bicholim came into prominance due to the mining as well as the famous temples located in it's suburban areas.

Shri Datta Mandir
This is a 100 year old temple that has a beautiful surrounding with a hill covered with areca palms on the banks of river Mandovi. The most important festival is the Datta Jayanti held in the month of December each year. People from all over vist this place during the festive season and God is believed to have cured many people of unstable mind.

Vithal Mandir
About 40 kms. from Panjim situated at Sanquelim is this temple dedicated to the local god Vithal. His statue is carved in black laterite and is well dressed.

Aravalem Caves and Waterfalls
These are four caves each having the Shiv Lingum as the main object to be worshipped. An important Hindu festival devoted to Lord Shiva, the Mahashivratri is celebrated every February / March.

Maem Lake
Located about 3 kms. south of Bicholim is a lovely picnic spot, Maem Lake surrounded by hills. It has been converted to a lake resort and offers a variety of water sports. State Government Cottages also offer comfortable accommmodation.

Shri Saptakoteshwar Temple
Located 35 kms. from Panaji inside Narve village and the oldest in Goa is the temple that was originally in Diwandi island in Mandovi River but destroyed by the Portuguese. Then in 1668 A.D Chhatrapati Shivaji had the temple renovated and shifted it to its present location. The temple has a multi - faceted Lingum.
