There are major diverse cities in Uttaranchal like Nainital, Dehradun and Haridwar. These cities have large markets each offering something different than another.

In Nainital shopping activity is centered around the Mall, which runs along one side of the lake. There are many decorative items for sale such as candles and wooden art and handicrafts. The decorative colourful candles are one thing every traveler to the place takes back with himself. Excellent quality tweed is manufactured by Kumaon Woolens and Nainital woolens both of who have showrooms on the Mall. For the woollen garments the Bohtia Bazaar is the best place. Apart from this main shopping areas are Mallital Bazaar; Tallital Bazaar; Tibetans market, near Naina Devi Temple, Mallital; Gupta Gift Emporium, Bara Bazaar, Mallital, Phone 35431(Cane sticks, Candles, Woodcraft, etc.); Hill Top Tourist Point, Nainital, Phone 35388(Cane sticks, Candles, Woodcraft, etc.); Kasta Kala Kendra, Chorekhet (Khurpatal)(All types of wood crafts).

Dehradun is famous for its delicious Basmati rice and litchis in summer. It is also famous for wool and woolen handicrafts like shawls, vests etc. Gold and Silver jewelry is another local specialty. Main shopping areas are: Sahakari Bazar, Astley Hall, Rajpur Road, Paltan Bazaar and Connaught Place.

In Haridwar Uttaranchal Government's Handloom Emporium, Near Bharat Mata Temple is very famous. Some of the popular purchase items are Rudrakash, Gangajali (Vessels containing Ganga water), pickles, kumkum (vermilion), Ayurvedic medicine and precious stones. Main shopping areas are Moti Bazaar, Upper Road and Jwalapur.
