Gopnath
Beach
Gopnath was the summer home of Maharaja Krishna Kumar Singhji of
Bhavnagar. 75 kms from Bhavnagar, Gopnath is well connected by rail
and bus to Ahmedabad. The breathtakingly beautiful seacoast with
its spectacular limestone cliffs and great views, sea breezes and
colourful bird-life, must have made an excellent break from the
city during the summer months. The Gopnath beach has lovely, firm,
sands. The high tidal difference of the coast makes the water murky
and not very inviting for a long swim. One can go sight seeing from
here.

Diu
Across Ahmedpur Mandvi is the island of Diu, a sensuous blend of
sun, sand and deep blue sea. Diu is situated 125 kms from Junagadh.
It is one of the country's finest beaches. Diu is a quiet secluded
island measuring less than 40 sq. kms. The total length of the coastline
of Diu does not exceed 21 km. It is connected to the mainland of
Gujarat by a causeway. The clean, cobbled streets, the pastel houses,
the catholic churches and the old bastioned fort, the colorful fishwives
in the elegant market square and the sleepy, relaxed atmosphere
- everything about Diu is pleasantly Mediterranean. It offers some
marvelous beaches. Three Portuguese churches also dot the island,
the first one, which has been converted into a museum housing some
rare Portuguese, artifacts. Another cynosure at Diu is the Fort
of Diu, an imposing statement of power. This beautiful island in
the Arabian Sea has the river Chasi running along its northern frontier.
The climate is pleasant throughout the year.

Chorwad
Beach
72 Kms. from Junagadh and 23 Kms. from the fishing centre of Veraval,
Chorwad is a delightful resort on the sunny coast of Gujarat. An
excellent road connects it to Junagadh, Girnar, the Gir Forest Sanctuary
and the famous temple of Somnath.

Mandvi
Beach
Another fine beach in Gujarat is in Mandvi, a historic port town
of the Maharao's of Kutch. The port of Mandvi was an important sea
trade post between the Near East and the Far East, which brought
prosperity to the Royal family. Mandvi town was important city for
the Maharaos of Bhuj being endowed with some splendid palaces and
buildings. The Maharao's private beach is accessible for a fee.
Sunset can be seen from the pavillion. Mandvi beach has lovely blue
waters, lots of birds, sandy beaches and colourful fishing points.
Next to the beach are the docks where wooden ships are built.
