How to reach Bhavnagar
Air:
Flights are available for
- Bhavnagar from: Mumbai, Calcutta and Chennai (Madras).
- Bhavnagar to: Mumbai(2-3 daily; 50min- 1hr 15min).
The Indian Airlines office (Q 26503) is north of the taxi stand,
near the Ganga Jalia Tank. There are four flights a week to Mumbai
(US$55). NEPC Airlines (Tel: 411191) flies three times a week to
Mumbai (US$60).
Rail:
Ahmedabad-Bhavnagar railway line. Railways do not cut across international
borders in this part of the world except the Samjhauta Express that
runs between Amritsar (India) and Lahore (Pakistan). However, in
many cases it is possible to travel to the border by train.
Bhavnagar to: Ahmedabad (3 daily; 3hr 30min- 7hr 5min); Veraval
(1 daily, 9hr).
Bhavnagar is 299km by rail from Ahmedabad. The trip takes about
5 and 1/2 hours and costs Rs 70/260 in 2nd/1st class. There is one
direct train daily, departing Bhavnagar at 5.30 a.m. Several daily
trains cover the 51km to Palitana in about two hours (Rs 9).
Road:
Ahmedabad (200km), Rajkot (178 km), Vadodara (280 km).
Buses are available from Bhavnagar to:
- Ahmedabad (every 30 mins; 5hr)
- Bhuj (2 daily; 8hr)
- Junagadh (5 daily; 7hr)
- Mumbai (2daily; 17hr)
- Palitana (hourly; 1hr 15min, Rs12)
- Rajkot (14 daily; 4hr)
- Una (5daily; 6hr. Rs50)
- Vadodara (8daily; 6hr)
Local transport: local buses and non-metered auto rickshaws
State transport buses connect Bhavnagar with Ahmedabad and other
centres in the region. For Una (and Diu) there are departures almost
every hour from 5.30 am. The timetable at the state bus stand in
Bhavnagar is entirely in Gujarati
