The district is well connected by roads with all industrial centres of the Country. National Highways passing through Nagpur are Bombay Calcutta NH-6 & Kanyakumari Varanasi NH-7.

Rail Links:
Nagpur Railway StationElectrified broad gauge railway track connects Nagpur to all four major metros. The length of broad gauge railwayline is 266.06 kms and that of narrow gauge railway line is 134.32 kms. Destinations connected included Mumbai, Delhi, Calcutta, Chennai, Kolhapur, Pune, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Jammu, Amritsar, Lucknow, Varanasi, Bhubaneshwar, Trivendrum, Cochin, Gorakhpur, Visakhapatnam, Bangalore, Mangalore, Patna, Indore.

Air Routes:
The Sonegaon Airport is 8 kilometers south of Nagpur City. It is connected to Mumbai, Calcutta, Delhi Hyderabad, Pune, Bhubaneswar, Raipur.

To reach Nagpur via air from abroad (Outside India):

From Bombay via daily two flights:

  • Morning 5.30 a.m. departure from Mumbai and reaching 7.00 a.m. to Nagpur.
  • Evening 6.30 p.m. departure form Mumbai and reaching Nagpur 8.00 a.m.

From New Delhi

  • Evening 5.30 p.m. departure from New Delhi and reaching Nagpur 7.30 p.m.
    Nagpur City is also having daily air services from Calcutta, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune etc.

Climate
Nagpur faces extreme variations in temperature with very hot summers and very cold winters and a relative humidity of 60 per cent. The climate of Nagpur follows a typical seasonal monsoon weather pattern. The peak temperatures are usually reached in May/June and can be as high as 48oC. The onset of monsoon is usually from July and the season extends up to September, with monsoon peaking during July and August. After monsoons, the average temperature varies between 27oC and approx 6 to 7oC right through December and January.

Seasons
Nagpur district enjoys three major seasons. Monsoon sets in the month of June. It is at its peak in July and August. July end and first two weeks of August is the best time to enjoy rain in Nagpur district.

Summer is really hot. Temperature shoots up to 45 degree Celsius. Sometimes even higher than that but for only few days. In these days air is dry and hot with slight wind moments. This is not a right season to visit Nagpur District.

The best time to enjoy travel in Nagpur district is in the winter season. The season though starts from October but from November to end of January is the best time. In these days temperature goes below 15 degree Celsius. For only few days it goes even below 12 degree Celsius. Air blow is calm and dry. Light winter clothing is must in these days.

Maximum, minimum and Average Temperatures

  • The maximum recorded temperature till date was 47.8 degree Celsius on 26th May 1954.
  • The minimum recorded temperature of 3.9 degree Celsius was on 7th January 1937.
  • The mean annual temperature of the city is maximum 33 degree Celsius and minimum 23 degree Celsius.

Wind speed
Wind blows with maximum (20 Km / Hrs or higher) in the month of February and on set of monsoon season i.e. in end of May and first week of June. This is due to generating low-pressure area in this region.

Rest of time wind speed is below 5 to 6 Km./Hrs. A maximum wind speed of 114 km/hr was recorded on 22nd May 1970.

Rainfall
Nagpur district receives rainfall from the southwesterly monsoon mainly in the months of June, July, August and September. July and August are the months during which the maximum rainfall as well as maximum continuous rainfall occurs.
